At the outset of the meeting, the Association’s President welcomed the Board members and emphasized the importance of the coming phase in strengthening the Association’s role and advancing Iraq’s cement industry sector in line with industrial and economic development requirements.
The meeting discussed a number of organizational and technical topics. Members voted to approve the admission of three new companies to the Association’s membership. The productive capacities of cement plants for 2025 were also reviewed and compared with 2024, noting a decline in domestic consumption.
The meeting further addressed the preparation of a carbon emissions reduction roadmap for Iraq’s cement sector, in cooperation with the State Company for Carbon Economics, based on previous meetings held with the company to agree on a mechanism for centrally registering emission-reduction projects through the Association. This includes obtaining approval from the national authority to adopt the projects and issuing carbon credits after a full year, enabling their trading in global carbon markets as a financial resource for private-sector plants, in addition to their adoption as a carbon footprint for products—within the framework of environmental sustainability and compliance with international standards in the cement industry.
The Board also reviewed the outcomes and recommendations of the “Integrated Solutions for the Cement Industry in Iraq” conference held on 16/12/2025 with Sinoma Suzhou, as well as the Association’s plan to cooperate in training and qualifying Iraqi university graduates and preparing them for employment in the cement sector. It also highlighted the participation of the Association’s delegation in Cemtech MEA 2026 held in Riyadh, and the Association’s and member companies’ interest in cooperating with a global firm to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into the cement sector to enhance productivity, operational performance, and quality. The Association’s President directed that a joint workshop be held with the company after the holy month of Ramadan.
Within the Association’s and member companies’ approach toward global engagement and outreach, proposals from international digital platforms for promoting and showcasing Arab industrial products were discussed, including APIP Online and CemenTürk, and their potential benefits, with a recommendation to be submitted to member companies accordingly.
The Board also reviewed the seminars and workshops the Association plans to organize in cooperation with Arab and international companies as part of its 2026 program, in addition to specialized international conferences to be held abroad. The Association’s President stressed the importance of companies’ participation in such events due to their role in sector development and strengthening its international presence.
This meeting coincided with the inauguration of the Association’s new headquarters, reflecting a new phase of institutional work and expanded activities in serving Iraq’s cement industry sector.
