Cement Producers Association in Iraq and the General Company for Carbon Economics Hold a Meeting to Strengthen Cooperation on Carbon Emission Reduction Projects


As part of strengthening mutual cooperation and supporting environmental sustainability efforts, a delegation from the Cement Producers Association in Iraq, headed by Eng. Ammar Rahim Abdullah Al-Saedi and accompanied by Dr. Maher Faeq Ismail, the Association’s Technical Advisor, visited the General Company for Carbon Economics to congratulate Mr. Haider Qasim Al-Darraji on the occasion of assuming his duties as Director General of the company, wishing him continued success in carrying out his responsibilities.
The meeting discussed the joint files between the two parties, foremost among them carbon emission reduction projects in private-sector cement plants. The Association reviewed the procedures it has undertaken since last year including the preparation of the technical files for the emission reduction projects and their submission to the General Company for Carbon Economics for the purpose of completing the registration procedures and issuing carbon credits in accordance with the approved regulations and procedures.

Both parties emphasized the importance of continuing joint coordination in a manner that supports emission reduction projects and strengthens the commitment of the cement industry to implementing best environmental practices in line with national and international efforts aimed at reducing carbon emissions and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Finally the meeting resulted in an agreement to organize a series of specialized workshops for cement plants, with the participation of experts from the General Company for Carbon Economics with the aim of explaining the mechanisms for registering emission reduction projects introducing the procedures for issuing carbon credits preparing a carbon emission reduction roadmap for the private cement sector in iraq and outlining the environmental and economic benefits achieved through these projects, in a way that supports the sector’s efforts to adopt sustainable solutions and enhance its competitiveness.
